Empower 3,000 Girls to Rise Beyond Violence

Girl Concern Project has made remarkable progress in empowering young women and addressing maternal health challenges in Garissa due to your continued support. With the successful completion of our Leadership Center, we are excited to share our advancements in building a maternal health hospital aimed at reducing maternal mortality in the region.

1. Leadership Center Completion: We are thrilled to announce that the Leadership Center is now fully operational. This facility serves as a crucial hub for leadership training and community engagement. Key highlights include:

• Henna Classes: Our henna art classes have been particularly successful, providing young women with both artistic skills and entrepreneurial opportunities. Over [insert number] participants have completed the course, enhancing their creativity and generating income.

• Training Programs: In addition to henna classes, we have launched workshops focusing on various issues affecting our community like climate change.

• Community Engagement: The center has fostered a supportive environment for dialogue and collaboration on issues affecting girls and women, encouraging active participation from the community.

2. Maternal Health Hospital Construction Building on our achievements with the Leadership Center, we have begun constructing a maternal health hospital dedicated to addressing high maternal mortality rates in Garissa.

Key developments include:

• Site Selection and Preparation: We have strategically chosen the hospital site to maximize accessibility for local communities. Groundwork is currently finished.

• Funding and Resources: Thanks to the generous contributions from our donors on GlobalGiving, we have been able to build a hospital that has a maternity unit, MCH, Lab, Consultation room and a pharmacy.  We are actively seeking additional support to ensure its successful completion.

3. Future Goals Looking ahead, our primary goals include:

- fully operationalising of the hospital by May 2025.

- Implementing comprehensive maternal health programs focused on education, prenatal care, and postnatal support. - Monitoring and evaluating the impact of our initiatives on maternal health outcomes in Garissa.

Receive warm greetings from Girl Concern Org. We are thrilled to share with you the milestone that we have reached as an organization. It is through your continued support that we are able to report on what we have been doing to change the lives of women and girls in the Northern part of Kenya.

This quarter we have provided capital to boost the businesses of three women. This money enhanced theri business and improved on their economic capacity. women in my community in particular provide for their school going children incase the male member is not abke to provide. We foresee a shift in power where women have the will to decide on what to do with their lives.

Girl Concern Org through the support of other donors has built a hospital within the center, where women can deliver safely, where youth can receive VCT services as well as out patient services. The hospital came about through the recemondation of a local administrator, we took it upon ourselves to ensure the community we serve receive a tailored support from us.

The hospital will assist us in covering the cost of our various interventions i.e. community sensitizations, cash transfers, partner engagement, that we conduct. Following the increase number of women who die while giving birth this project will see reduce in child mortality.

The center also continues to train young women in henna application, students who graduated from the centre have started their own business. One of the student has been able to acquire customers for the henna application during eid festivals, another student who was a divorcee returned back to her village and has opened a business.

This success stories is what makes us continue with the work that we are doing each time. seeing the transformation in the life of a particular girl, fuels our zeal and gives us the strength to aim to achieve our vision of building resilience in the lives of women and girls.
