The rights of old persons in Nigeria have often been violated which leave them faced with challenges such as systemic abuse/violence, abandonment by family members,lack of shelter, little or no access to health care systems among others. This project will build a home for senior citizens in Imo State Nigeria where they will be accommodated and provided with basic necessities that would facilitate improved well being and socio economic status.
In Nigeria old people face a lot of challenges such as Absence of social security system, Decreased functional Independence, Inadequate health care/poor health and nutritional status, Systemic abuse, Absence of elderly friendly services, Very poor /lack of housing facilities, Changes in family dynamics, and lack of will by the supposedly concerned to pay their pensions.These challenges incapacitates our aged and could lead to their untimely demise.
Offthehook senior citizens home will be a safe,hygienic and comfortable home that can house 100 elders at a time. It provides them essentials for life including daily meals, nutritional supplements, clothing and healthcare. It will provide room for skill development and income generation,provide security for them,and secure their economic rights.
The provisions provided by this project will enable the old people to lead a better life which is devoid of all the challenges they face. This will foster a longer and healthy and productive life for them and increase their socio economic impact.
