The Caribbean is experiencing severe climate challenges, including rising sea levels, increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, and the degradation of vital ecosystems. These issues directly threaten the livelihoods of communities that rely on agriculture, fishing, and tourism. The impacts are exacerbating food insecurity, economic instability, and environmental destruction, making it critical to implement urgent climate resilience strategies to safeguard the region's future.
The CCSA will establish a climate-smart zone across the Caribbean, transitioning to 90% renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. By protecting 30% of land and ocean, the project will conserve ecosystems and boost biodiversity. It will also create green jobs, fostering economic resilience and providing communities with skills for a sustainable future. Tracking the climate-smart zone's development in real-time on the Climate Smart Map, ensures transparency and progress.
The long-term impact of the work of the CCSA will be a more climate-resilient Caribbean, fueled by sustainable energy, with thriving ecosystems & a green economy. By achieving 90% renewable energy & safeguarding 30% of the land & ocean, the region will reduce its vulnerability to climate change & preserve vital resources for future generations. The creation of green jobs will strengthen local economies, empower communities, & ensure a sustainable, climate-smart future for the Caribbean.
