On April 25, 2015 a 7.8 & May 12th with 7.3 M. earthquakes struck Nepal. The both earthquakes destroyed over 36,000 classrooms leaving 1 million children unable to return to school. The Small World working communities in Solukhumbu district destroyed 1045 classroom. We immediately built 20 learning temporary shelter benefits over 1500 children & 15 permanent classrooms which benefited over 700 children. But we need your urgent help to build 10 more classrooms to keep 500 children in schools.
Our working area in Himalaya community in Solukhumbhu district is laid off the radar of development due to lack of road access, good health care facilities & education etc.. Even after 2015 Nepal earthquake pushed backward specially children who are tent to be future of family & leaders of community are increase high risk of dropping out of school and forced into child labor and child marriage which will cause the continue cycle of poverty in the generation to come.
We have been continuing working with local community members for their children education specially focusing on young girls who are vulnerable & high risk of trafficking since 2006. As result with established strong network with community members we been able to help immediately over 17,130 earthquake victims with water, foods, shelters, built 22 temporary learning shelters benefited over 1500 children & in recovery phase we just finished 15 permanent classrooms which supported over 700 children
Our school building project in remote Himalayan community will directly benefit hundreds of students over the generation to come. We believe this is most ideal & wish investment, if we education children & specially girls then they will do the rest like stopping early child marriage, sending their children to school and sharing back to their family and community. At The Small World, we believe that Education has the power to change lives and break the cycles of Poverty & Gender Gaps in Nepal .
