Arhaus Children's Home is the first home in Everest region to provide safe, quality, & free educational opportunities for children, especially those who are orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable, i.e., at high risk of trafficking, forced child labor, & abuse, a safe place to live; educational opportunities; & life skills training such as farming, employment in tourism, leadership & business sectors, and finding & creating new opportunities in their own social background & culture.
The children in remote Himalayan community have been badly affected by devastating Nepal earthquake -2015 and right after that by Covid-19. Most of the trekking porters, single-vulnerable women and daily wage worker lost their jobs and they need our support to keep their children safe and continue their education in school to protect them from being permanent dropouts and keep these children safe from danger of trafficking, abuse and forced child labor.
The program has deep connections & bonds with local community members & the area's culture & geography. We are working together with local community members to protect & educate children as well as deepen their relationship & respect for their people, culture and land; in essence, during their education, they are not alienated from their social background, language, or culture. These communities develop more pride & self-respect & take ownership, ensuring safety & education of their own children
This project will help to build a strong community & in the long term, these children will give back & support the local community. Community responsibility will be more developed & activated to improve or even end the problems faced by children today. In support of this, we have involved local community members. With their participation in other projects such as growing foods and continuing to sustain projects for which we train them, the these communities develop more pride and self respect.
