Days after hurricane Maria, we partnered with the the Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico. They are a local organization which provides after school programming for young people ages 6 - 18 in their 13 centers located throughout the island. For our global giving campaign, we partnered with Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico because 9 out of 10 participants live in poverty with 81% of their families living with annual incomes under $15,000.
After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, the Boys and Girls Club chapter in Vieques, Puerto Rico was left with no electricity. Vieques is a small island that is part of Puerto Rico; this municipality was left destroyed, uncommunicated and with no certain timeline for when power was going to be restored. Thanks to your donations in this campaign, we were able to provide the club participants in Vieques Island with mentoring and art supplies. This allowed for the Boys and Girls Club in Vieques to continue the important community work they are doing which includes, education and fostering of the arts for creativity and innovation.
