This year’s Women's Day celebrations at Unyama Clinic were a special moment to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women in healthcare. We took the opportunity to honor the incredible nurses, midwives, and community health workers who serve tirelessly to provide essential medical services. Their dedication, resilience, and sacrifice have been instrumental in improving healthcare access for women and children in these villages. Through heartfelt expressions of gratitude, we acknowledged their efforts and encouraged them to continue being pillars of health and hope in the community.
Despite the progress made, Malaria remains the most diagnosed disease in the villages we serve. More than half of all tests conducted in our health facilities return positive results, making malaria prevention and treatment a priority. To combat this, we strengthened our response through our peacecorps volunteer by providing free malaria testing and treatment, distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and conducting community education sessions. Families are encouraged to use mosquito nets correctly, clear stagnant water around their homes, and seek treatment early. However, the high infection rate continues to strain our resources, emphasizing the urgent need for expanded prevention efforts.
Regarding Maternal and Child health services, ensuring the well-being of mothers and children is at the heart of this project. Hundreds of pregnant women received antenatal care at our health facilities, allowing for early detection and management of potential pregnancy complications. Additionally, thousands of children were immunized against preventable diseases, ensuring they have a strong start in life.
Through continued health education, we are empowering mothers with knowledge on proper nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and newborn care. Safe deliveries at our clinics remain a priority, reducing maternal and infant mortality in the region.
The impact of our work in Gulu is evident, but there is still much more to be done. Malaria continues to threaten lives, and many mothers and children still lack access to essential healthcare services. With your support, we can expand our reach, provide more life-saving treatments, and ensure that every mother and child receives the care they deserve. Join us in this mission—whether by donating, spreading awareness, or partnering with us—to create healthier and stronger communities. Together, we can make a lasting difference. Act now and be a part of this transformative journey!
