Access to good library is critical for scholastic development. School's small library is not sufficient for growing needs of school. Also we want to expand our school library to serve the local community, who have no library access at all. We are close to two government schools and 4 villages. We want to create a learning hub for the whole community. We plan to build 1200 sq.ft library, fully furnished with sufficient reading material and subscriptions. Total cost: INR 20.4 lakhs(USD 29000)
Even in the digital age, the traditional library with good books, periodicals and digital resources serves a great purpose of learning beyond curriculum. It helps in satisfying intellectual curiosity, along with inculcating good reading habits. India being a developing country, lacks good physical library access, even in cities. The planned library infrastructure will be big boost to bridge the huge gap between city and village kids by exposing them to several ideas.
A decent library infrastructure will help our school students to further develop their reading habits and expose them to learning outside their curriculum. 2 government schools nearby, young and adult people from nearby 4 villages(about 1 km from school) can gain from access to suitable magazines and periodicals, digital resources to learn and improve their understanding and livelihood. It would serve as learning hub for them to get systematic access to knowledge, with the help of librarian.
We plan to open a library as part of school, that would not only serve 1000+ children of school in near future, but also serve a large local community in off school hours. There is no such public library in district and with good resources and future scaling up, it may attract interested and curious minds from far off places within district also.
