Provide 16 families with a home in Caracas

PROJECT: Construction of 16 Transitional Houses in Charallave, Estado Miranda, Venezuela

MAIN OBJECTIVE

To benefit 16 Venezuelans families living in extreme poverty, with the construction of transitional houses which can immediately improve habitat conditions, build by college volunteers jointly with families of Charavalle.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• Immediate improve 16 families’ habitat condition.
• To promote integration of different society sectors (college volunteers, benefit families, plus community neighbors), by the two day transitional houses construction.
• Encourage actions by all the participants, in benefit of the most needed families, emphasizing in community work, and sustainable development.
• Empower and strengthen Community Council leaders in order to carry out projects that improve community’s quality of life.

Charallave Community is located at Municipio Cristóbal Rojas, Estado Miranda. It has a population of 130 thousand people approx. In this community, we can find several slums that have deficiencies in basic services, such as water, electricity, garbage collection, drainage, infrastructure, among others.

METHODOLOGY

In order to carry out the construction of transitional houses, we work according to the steps described below:

1. First intervention in Charavalle Community, volunteers visit it once a week during one month to identify the 16 benefit families.
2. The families agreed to work with TECHO, and Transitional houses are ordered to our suppliers.
3. Materials and tools needed for construction are transported to the community three days before the construction.
4. The construction begins on a Friday and end on Sunday evening, with volunteers and families sharing a unique experience.
