Hospital to treat 25,000 disabled Cambodians

Challenge

The National Rehabilitation Centre has housed CSC for 20 years. However, the land has now been sold and by 2022, we have to move to an alternative location that is too far for 90% of our staff and will affect 40,000 patients annually. Fortunately, we are in negotiations with local partners to create a University Teaching Hospital, but we are financially burdened by construction expenses. This extraordinary opportunity will transform this small charity hospital to one of national consequence.

Solution

The funding sought will enable CSC to begin Phase 1 of our new hospital: creating a University-affiliated facility for reconstructive surgery. Alongside ENT (ear, nose, & throat) and eye surgery, this is one of CSC's major programs. This new facility will allow CSC to continue providing surgical assistance to Cambodia's most vulnerable populations at no charge all while empowering the next generation of Cambodian healthcare professionals to lead complex reconstructive surgery.

Long-Term Impact

Last year, CSC provided over 4,000 consultations and 1,000 reconstructive operations to Cambodians of all ages, entirely free of charge. This project will equip CSC to not only continue housing these services, but train countless health professionals annually and give 5,000 Cambodians each year the chance to rehabilitate their disability, improve their economic status, and allow them to integrate back into their communities and daily life without the burdens compounded by their disability.
