It’s an honor to report to you what’s been happening with our construction housing project at Stephen Baker Farm. Most exciting to share is the first house is complete and we give thanks to you for funding these efforts! We have been able to accomplish this amidst the raising costs of materials. Annet and her twins have moved in as District referral, unable to pay rent and homeless after the birth of her babies who needed her care. We're unable to furnish the home due to increased costs of the build but they have safe shelter again and it’s a priority to get beds and other basics soon.
While this is our first home as a GlobalGiving project, we have other homes we built previously. This addition makes 23 changed lives living on our Stephen Baker Farm. This has brought some unexpected challenges on the medical side to keep all the children well. Their immune systems are not strong, causing sickness often from malaria and typhoid, so treatment costs add up quickly. In consideration, we realized we need an income generating project the mothers can all work together on so the burden is not just upon us. Our project leader, Lisa agreed to the idea of starting a piggery. There is one not too far away that I visited to gain some knowledge and is running successfully. We humbly advise we will use the next amounts given to start this before building any other homes. We will keep you updated on this as always.
Kindly continue to stand with us so we can change the lives of our community. KCA is the only organization in the area who is adopting violated mothers and children. We are grateful for those we have assisted and often referrals come to our organization seeking help. Robina is one that touched our hearts.
Robina recently lost her husband in an accident on the lake. She has 10 children, one is lame, and another has eye problems. This is an overwhelming number of kids to feed and no one has stepped in to help. KCA had to put her on pending status as the houses we build are only two rooms and is clearly not enough space for a family this size. Our staff plans to pay a visit to this family once we get something to take to them. If our partners have any ideas or resources to share, we would appreciate hearing how we can handle this situation.
