Trustees End of Year Report Apr'23- Mar'24

By Maureen Nevitt | Chair, Board of Trustees

Annual Report of the Trustees 2023-2024

Chair’s Report Dear Supporters, I am pleased to present the Annual Report of the trustees as we reflect on the accomplishments of our charity at the close of the financial year. Once again, I am grateful to report that through prudent management, BBK has been able to meet all our financial needs, ensuring our operations for at least another year. Our accounts have undergone a positive examination, revealing a healthy balance (Finances available upon request).

Transitioning from one fiscal year to another often brings changes, and this year was no exception. With Margaret Hall's retirement as Treasurer, BBK faced challenges in finding a suitable replacement. Consequently, to streamline operations, we opted to send funds to Mothers’ Vision (MV) and Jesus Healing Ministry (JHM) just once a year, significantly reducing administrative burden.

In May 2023, £20,000 each was allocated to JHM and MV. Sensing a favorable exchange rate opportunity in February 2024, the trustees decided to disburse another substantial sum - £20,000 to each organization - to maximize their benefit before the rate declined further. These disbursements are projected to sustain them for over 20 months, utilizing the remaining funds from May 2024.

In October, the board underwent title changes facilitating my transition into the treasurer's role, with Margaret Hall assuming the position of secretary and Rose Elliott as chairperson.

I extend heartfelt gratitude to Caroline Warren for spearheading and sustaining the GlobalGiving initiative (https://goto.gg/53201), enabling fundraising efforts in Singapore and worldwide. Her dedication also extends to overseeing the Barani Primary School and Village Project, for which we are immensely thankful.

Our visit to Kenya in March/April 2023, involving four adults and their children, led to pivotal decisions. Gates of Joy, now self-sufficient, received a lump sum of £6000 as a parting gift. Additionally, within the funds allocated to MV, £3000 was designated for feeding both Barani and Pentagon villages thrice over the next year, with gratitude to the Acorn Project for contributing £2000 towards this initiative.

Food parcels continue to be distributed to vulnerable families, while other essentials such as school fees, uniforms, and medical assistance are provided as well. Acknowledgments are due to the Rotary, Soul Kitchen, Sunderland UK, and all sponsors whose steadfast support sustains our mission.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, and I extend my deepest appreciation to each individual dedicating their time and energy to our cause. I extend personal thanks to Margaret Hall, Rose Elliott, Maureen Holland, Moira Walker, Margaret Neatham, and all trustees for their unwavering commitment.

This year, BBK has catered to the needs of 46 children in our centers, offering accommodation, sustenance, medical aid, education, and companionship. Our charity has deepened its engagement with local villages, providing food parcels, medical support, and educational assistance.

We attribute our success to prudent management and remain steadfast in our commitment to serving those in need. BBK is dedicated to making a positive impact, and we express gratitude for the continued support from our patrons. Warm regards, Maureen Nevitt Chair, Board of Trustees

Report of Achievements 2023-2024

Gates of Joy – Kilifi

BBK sustained support for Gates of Joy, totaling £6000, facilitating their self-sufficiency journey. Crops and livestock now sustain them, with a new poultry project underway. Mercy, expressing interest in seamstressing, received a sewing machine. We bid fond farewells as Gates of Joy achieves autonomy.

Mothers’ Vision

With most children sponsored, MV received funds for sustenance and education. Damaris, the manager, extends support to children and the needy in Barani and Pentagon villages, aided by BBK's contributions. Jumaa's university sponsorship for three years, at £939 annually, was approved. Festivities and food aid marked the year's highlights.

Jesus Healing Ministry (JHM)

JHM's new home provides comfort and security to 26 children. Agricultural ventures and a shop sustain them, while water collection and poultry farming enhance sustainability. BBK continues to support as children thrive academically and prepare for future endeavors.

Barani Primary School (BPS)

BBK's support enables over 350 children to access education, including uniforms, essentials, and medical care. Caroline's menstrual hygiene initiative positively impacts students. Medical assistance extends to Pentagon Village, enhancing community welfare.

University Students

BBK supports university students in diverse fields, fostering educational attainment and skill development for future careers. These achievements reflect BBK's unwavering commitment to transformative impact, driven by prudent management and generous support from our patrons and volunteers.

We look forward to continued collaboration in the pursuit of our mission.

Warm regards,

Maureen Nevitt Chair, Board of Trustees
