Nearly 500 children attend Silibwet School in rural Kenya, where families have done everything they can to create a place for their children to learn. Parents built temporary classrooms from timber offcuts and iron sheets, but the school has outgrown what the community can build alone. Together, we will construct six permanent classrooms, washrooms, a teachers' lounge and a principal's office, creating a safer, stronger school for children today and for generations to come.
Silibwet School was started by parents who wanted something better for their children. When there were not enough classrooms, families did what they could with what they had, building temporary rooms from offcut timber and iron sheets. Today, approximately 495 children attend the school, including 131 children in early childhood education, 281 primary students and 83 junior secondary students. The school has just two permanent classrooms alongside seven temporary classrooms.
Village Impact will work alongside the Silibwet community and local education leadership to build six permanent classrooms, new washrooms, a teachers' lounge and a principal's office. This is not simply a construction project. Village Impact works with public schools over time, helping school leaders, teachers, parents and community members strengthen the systems and remain actively involved through consultation, site engagement and long term care of the facilities.
The community has already built the foundation. Our role is to come alongside them and help build what comes next. Permanent classrooms will give hundreds of children safer, more stable places to learn, while improved washrooms and dedicated staff spaces strengthen the whole school. As Silibwet grows, these classrooms will serve thousands of children for decades, supported by ongoing community leadership and capacity building.
