GABA HOPE FOR KIDS (GAHOK)*
*Narrative Report - August 2026*
*THEME: OUR CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM CONTINUES*
*1. Introduction*
Our construction program continues with one goal: to give 600 unprivileged children from Gaba slum a safe, dignified place to learn. Started in 2019 in rented iron sheet rooms with 50 children, we now serve 600 children (Nursery to P.5) and continue building our permanent future on our 1-acre land in Wakiso.
*2. Why Construction Must Continue*
Current school in Gaba is not safe for 600 children:
- 3 temporary rooms leaking when it rains - children sent home
- No toilets - 600 children use bush / neighbours' latrine
- No fence - insecurity and land grabbers threat
- No kitchen - cooking in open for 600 meals
- Congestion - 100+ children per room
Without continuing construction, 600 children will lose their only hope.
*3. What We Have Done So Far*
*A) Land Secured:*
1-acre land in Wakiso purchased and titled - our permanent site for 600 pupils.
*B) Phase 1 - Foundation Completed:*
- Site clearing and leveling done
- Foundation for 2 classroom block (Nursery to P.2) excavated and built
- 5,000 bricks on site made by community mothers
*C) Materials Mobilized:*
- Community contributions: sand, labor
- Friends from GlobalGiving supported cement for foundation
*4. Construction Program Continues - Current Activities (August 2026)*
1. Raising walls for 2 classrooms - now at window level
2. Molding more bricks - target 10,000 bricks for completion
3. Fundraising for roofing, toilets, and water tank for 600 children
4. Engaging District Engineer Wakiso for building plan approval for full 600-pupil school
Work is done by parents - mothers carry water, fathers mold bricks. This is community ownership for 600 lives.
*5. What Remains to Complete Phase 1*
- Roofing for 2 classrooms - 200 children will move from leaking rooms
- Plastering & Floor - safe learning environment
- 3 Toilets stance - dignity and health for our girls and all 600 children
- Water Tank 5000L - clean water for drinking and cooking for 600
*6. Challenges Slowing Us*
- Heavy rains in Gaba - transport of materials hard
- Rising cement prices
- 100% donor dependent - we build as funds come, yet we have 600 to feed and teach daily
*7. Next Steps - September to December 2026*
- Complete walls by end of September
- Roofing campaign in October
- Commission Phase 1 in December and shift Nursery-P.2 to Wakiso as we build main site for all 600 children
*8. Appreciation & Appeal*
Our construction program continues because you continue with us. Every bag of cement you give is a brick of hope for 600 futures.
We appeal to our GlobalGiving family to help us roof the 2 classrooms before rains of November.
*"We are not just building classrooms, we are building futures for 600 children."
Thanks for being our amplifier and sharing our projects with friends and family God.
