Grandmother Rucy's Story
By Dale Johnson & Florence Cheruiyot | Project Leader
Grandmother Rucy's story began 20 years ago after the death of her husband. Her story takes her from the banks of a river selling brew, to joining other Grandmother's who are on the same journey towards wholeness. She closed down her brewing business to start knitting sweaters and making beautifully handicrafted gourds. Her story tells of how in 2012 she was approached by a close friend to join the widows and grandmothers group. As a result of this invitation, Rucy now can be helped to learn more on how put to "coins in her pocket" because of supportive donors like you! She has made complete turn around with her life and has inspired others in her community.
Walk with Rucy as she shares with Florence and others.
We also invite you to take a outside virutal tour of the contruction site up to the second floor of the Women's Center and Hostel. "We have transisted onto Phase 3 construction workers are now laying down concrete on the top slab level which would prepare it for brick laying on the upper floor/first floor".
Asante Sana! Thank you very much!
God bless you all!

Pictured on the right are a part of the 150 widows and grandmothers of Kipsitet area. These hardworking women have gone through a lot of struggles and have endured the most harshest of hardships, to them The Kipsitet Women’s Center is more than just an income generating facility for widows and grandmothers, it’s a place where they can came together and encourage, share and support each other through their experiences and triumphs.

Visit from GlobalGiving’s East Africa Representative – Kelly Kurz
The Kipsitet Widows and grandmothers and the entire building committee were pleased to host and meet up with Globalgiving’s East Africa representative Kelly Kurz, for a site visit at Kipsitet.
The entire group of widows and grandmothers were ecstatic on meeting Kelly, they were inspired and encouraged nevertheless. It meant so much to them that Globalgiving would care that much and send a rep to come and to oversee a project that would change the
lives of many women across the entire Kericho County of Kenya. Also through Kelly’s visit the committee on ground got to know in-depth the operations of Globalgiving and how the process of donor funding could be boosted to enhance the development of such projects like The KWC.
PROJECT PROGRESS
In our last report you learned about the construction of the first floor walls which was just starting off with raw materials being brought in. Currently the walls of the ground floor have been completed and the completion of Phase 2 is nearly at an end. The constructors are now planning and prepping for the last stage of construction in phase 2 which is putting up the upper floor slab and this is estimated to take quite a considerable amount of time and finesse. After this Phase 3 will now kick off. This involves the construction of the upper floor walls and roofing. We are on the MOVE!
Progress has been steady and it is encouraging to see the construction workers maintaining a healthy work ethic especially with the scarce availability of water in the region. There has been a lack of rain during this season in Kenya, however the crews have been working together with the resource of water they have available on site.
It is our expectation that the completion of Phase 2 will be finalized by the end of April. Keep praying for the workers to remain safe and healthy!
