*Building a Women's Center and Hostel in rural Kipsitet, Kenya, will provide a safe environment for 150 Kenyan Grandmothers to have a space for business trade training, enclosed kiosks to sell their handicrafts, meeting space for women's conferences, and overnight lodging. To have this Women's Center/Hostel built will be a dream come true for these women ages 54 to 88 years old who are raising orphan children.
This building project will help to address the lack of a large combined meeting and lodging facility for our elderly Grandmothers. When there are annual women's meetings or different training sessions, there is not enough space to meet in separate age or interest groups. Our Grandmothers who range in ages 54 to 87 years old, travel from 7 different areas for 4 hours or more. To meet later in the day will cause them to leave later which is dangerous and unsafe for them.
This building project will allow all of our Grandmothers to fully participate in all planned activities. She will be able to sell her handicrafts in her own kiosk and not have to take them home. This lessens the factor of someone stealing from her. There will be rooms for separate group meetings and training. This project will provide overnight lodging for Grandmothers who live far away.
This building project will benefit 150 Grandmothers and the surrounding community. This project will provide income from the individual and group sales of handicrafts allowing them to support their families. The Grandmothers will be able to meet in a central location which will belong to all 7 Grandmother's groups. Kipsitet which is located in the Soin District will benefit from having a meeting facility to use, which will help to provide sustainable income for our Grandmothers' group.
