Help Us Build A New School in Kenya

Hello Supporters!

Fundraising has been a bit slower than we hoped but with the support of a few alumni in the UK and the donations on GlobalGiving we embarked on phase 1 of our new school, which was to build a new science block.

As part of government regulations a school must have a science block to be able to host the national examinations and we feel that providing education is essential but we also want our children to graduate therefore this has become our priority. It does mean sadly we have had to loose more play area space but it is essental.

We have successfully over the past 6 months built from the ground up a new science lab and the education inspectors have visited and we passed the test! It was exciting to building and has really motivated us to fundraise and start another classroom this year or next at the latest so help us fundraise and watch this space

Hi everyone.

Greetings from Mombasa as I hope you are all well. We have had a very successful few months and I thought it would be nice for you as donors to see where our funds are coming from:

 Incoming Funds
1. We have 3 very special alumni and monthly donations a total of; Ksh 60,137.
2. Motorbikes hire Ksh 33,300.
3. Contribution from Community; Ksh 78,500.
5. Balance carried forward; Ksh 105,695.

Total; Ksh 277,632

 Outgoing Funds
1. Salaries Ksh 198,000.
2. Rent Ksh 50,000.
3. Motorbikes repair Ksh 17,950
4. Sch expense; Ksh 19,400

Total Outgoing Funds; Ksh 285,350

We are slightly over with a shortfall of 7,718 which as a team we are working to fundraise through different chanels. Up and coming costs for us also include Ksh 37,750 for the school permit and the cooks certificates. The school permit usually has a deadline of 31st March every year.

We also have a school feeding programme which due to a lack of fudraising traditionally we worked hard to find a very special fundraiser/ corproate that is funding the food until mid April.

This show's you the above costs of runing a school and the current landlord of the school is pushing to sell the property, the school team are putting an offer in for 20million Ksh but the owner is looking for 37million which is too much and as such we wold agree to purchase a new site and start to rebuild. We are in a position where we need to continue to fund our monthly costs but would love hep through fundraisers, corporate CSR support and anything else our lovely supporters can think off to raise 20million Kash to either purchase our current land or buy a new site.

Once we purchase we will remove our monthly rental cost of the school and then our headteacher would like to shifting from road transport as income generating project to real estate as this will create a bigger income to cover all staffing costs.

A very special donor and supporter of the school has agreed and will be purchasing one house in Shauri Yako village at Ksh 650,000 and whose rent per month  is Ksh 7,000 and this is the starting point for us.

The school is also working on somewhere we can grow our own crops those mainly consumed foodstuffs at Nyota. Yesterday, the team visited a place in Kilifi County, (one and half hours drive from Mombasa) and at this place we can purchase land for Ksh 480,000 per acre. This is a land bordering a river and therefore crop production can be throughout the year. 

Lastly, we had a very successful medical camp here at school and it was so much beneficial to the 312 kids and the 17 staff members. I know this can be overwhelming but we thought you should see our detailed plans and robust strategies to become a self sustainable school in Kenya. We need help now and together we will do it.
