Keeping Safe&Restoring Dignity of Vulnerable Girls

We are so excited to share how we impacted the lives of vulnerable girls from Kuria.

We carried out Skills training and Girls mentorship sessions reaching approximately 50 girls across Kuria, the training aimed to enhance their confidence, self-awareness, and Leadership skills enabling them to actively participate in decision-making processes, particularly in matters that directly concern girls. From the training, the girls are able to advocate for their rights such as saying no to harmful cultural practices reducing their risk of FGM, Child marriage, and other forms of violence. The sessions created an empowering and inclusive environment where girls attend, feel safe, supported, connected, empowered, and better informed about their rights and opportunities.

We also carried out girls' safe spaces in 5 villages reaching approximately 150 girls, the safe spaces created access to information and services on SRHR, and through creating access to information girls can make positive and healthy choices about their lives. In recognition that access to Sexual Reproductive Health plays an important role in improving the well-being of girls, their families, and communities.

During the safe spaces, girls also have access to menstrual care essentials promoting their menstrual hygiene management. Promoting menstrual health and hygiene is important for safeguarding girls' dignity, privacy, bodily integrity, and, consequently, their self-efficacy. Awareness of Menstrual Hygiene Management contributes to building an enabling environment of non-discrimination and gender equality in which girls' voices are heard, girls have choices about their future. Through our walk-in menstrual care bank, we have been able to distribute more than 30 boxes of sanitary towels to 200 girls both in and out of school.

A big thank you to GlobalGiving for supporting vulnerable girls from Kuria.
