During the December holidays more than 1000 girls were at risk of being Cut,Iin all the 4 sub-counties of Kuria including Kuria East and West,Mabera,Ntimaru were cutting girls.Female Genital Mutilation is a harmful cultural practice that has health risks, as well as a variety of long-term complications affecting girls physical, mental and sexual health and well-being throughout the course of their lives.

Through the support of the childrens office and police departments we carried out home visits to the various girls at risk within the villages to rescue the girls to deliver basic essentials like food, clothings and toiletries.

We also shared with the girls the various refferal pathways and reporting channels such as toll free lines where they can receive the help they need during the said period.

In partnership with other organizations within the region,we supported girls safe and rescue centres within the 4 sub-counties which had a capacity of approximately 500 girls. We provided clothings, food, menstrual health essentials (panties, sanitary pads, soap, tissue),beddings and transport to the rescue centres, police stations and to court proceedings.

During our visits we used the platforms to have a discussion with the girls and their families on the various harmful effects of FGM allowing them to be champions among their families and community members and inturn support the girls decision not to undergo the cut and champion for girls rights and education in theri schools, villages and community.

Even as school opening dates are approaching we will continue to support girls and ensure their safety within their communities and their re-entry back to school.
