This project will build and equip a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Ghana to provide life-saving care for critically ill children. Many hospitals in Ghana lack specialized intensive care facilities for children, leaving vulnerable patients without access to advanced treatment during medical emergencies. This project will help improve survival rates by providing critically ill children with specialized care, modern medical equipment, and trained healthcare support.
Critically ill children in Ghana often face limited access to intensive care services due to inadequate healthcare infrastructure and shortages of specialized pediatric equipment. Many hospitals are unable to properly manage severe conditions such as respiratory failure, infections, trauma, and complications from chronic illnesses. As a result, preventable child deaths remain a major challenge.
This project will construct and equip a fully functional Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with essential life-support equipment, patient monitoring systems, and emergency care resources. It will also support training for healthcare workers to ensure high-quality pediatric critical care services. The PICU will provide specialized treatment for children requiring urgent and intensive medical attention.
The project will significantly improve survival rates for critically ill children and strengthen pediatric healthcare services in Ghana. Families will have access to advanced medical care locally, reducing the need for costly referrals and delayed treatment. Over time, this project will contribute to stronger healthcare systems and improved child health outcomes nationwide.
