USAID reports that 72% of northern Nigerian children can't read a single sentence. Bakin Ruwa Students' Union (BASU) develops numerous initiatives including a small community library for vulnerable children who do'nt have reading materials and young ladies who due to distance and some cultural practice don't have equal access to library. This project will expand and upgrade the library to accommodate 300 children and young girls, providing e-learning reading materials, up-to-date books.
Poor learning outcome at basic level has made millions of Nigerians to loose hope for pursuing higher education causing serious social and economics problems. One of the key problem of education at basic level is lack of reading materials where pupils graduate without having any textbook and this prevent them from acquiring the required basic literacy and numeracy. Bakin Ruwa Students' Union will provide modern library to 300 vulnerable children who don't have textbooks.
Bakin Ruwa Students' Union (BASU) will train the children and young ladies how to use the e-learning tools, teach them tips on reading and writing skills, train them to develop reading habit, organise extra curriculum activities to create competition among them and motivate them through guidance and counseling to pursue higher education.
Improve the learning outcome of the children and the young ladies and encourage them to pursue higher learning education. The quality higher education will uplift their life from illiteracy and poverty and encourage child school enrollment which in turn will reduce the number of the out-of-schoool children.
