Report from Dec 1-Mar 31, 2023
The El Lustrador Foundation (ELF) helps poor children in Guatemala with their education. ELF is raising money to provide for these needs and to keep the school in good shape: ELF continues to work with the community that lives adjacent to the Guatemala City Basurero, or landfill, and the kids who attend Manuel Marcos Martinez School and Alberto Mejia. The families in this community scratch out a living by scavenging at the landfill, and their children attend the local school.
In February 2023, René Corado traveled to Guatemala to distribute scholarships and to see how the construction of the lunch/conference room is going at school. This time he shared a good time with students, parents and teachers at Las Guacamayas School in Morazan, El Progreso, distributing bags with school supplies and enjoying a good meal with everybody.
We are constructing bleachers in the new community room, also we help with other repairs in the school for the safety of the kids. Very soon the children will have a new room to play, eat and have other activities. The school is painted now and have new toilets and renew bathrooms.
Also, we are supporting the Feria Internacional de la LecturaInfantil y Juvenil de Centroamerica (International Reading Fair for Children's and Youth of Central America) the serve about 11,000 children a year for free.
Our fundraising is going well so far: from Sep 13, 2021 to Nov 31, 2022, we received $14,427 in donations for our goal of $50,000, in 209 donations from a total of 89 different donors. If you are not one of the recurring donors; we hope you decide to join. And on December 23rd 2021 we received an additional $9,000 donation from a single donor! A great thank you to all of you, the donors, from The Board of Directors of ELF -- René, Linnea, Don, Eddie, René Jr., and Dexter.– as well as our amazing volunteers in Guatemala and USA.
The Municipality of Guatemala City almost finish building our proposed cafeteria and assembly room for students to gather during, lunch, play, hurricanes and other times. After hearing about our project, the Mayor offered to help us build the room, we expect to be finished by the end of May 2023.
We talked with the principal and we agree to finish whatever the municipality won’t work on it for example change all the broken windows in the school, build bleachers, repair broken concrete and tiles etc.
Thank you again for your support with our Guatemalan children.
