Report from Aug 1-Nov 30, 2023
The El Lustrador Foundation (ELF) is helping underprivileged children in Guatemala with their education. ELF is raising money to provide for these needs and to keep the school in good physical shape: ELF continues to work with the community that lives adjacent to the Guatemala City Basurero, or landfill, and the kids who attend Manuel Marcos Martinez School and Alberto Mejia. The families in this community scratch out a living by scavenging at the landfill, and their children attend the local school.
October 4th was the inauguration of the multi-use room of our schools in zone 3 near the landfill in Guatemala. Thanks to the Director of the School Alberto Mejia, Seño Meylan for her help with the logistics and to Municipality of Guatemala for its support in this construction. The El Lustrador Foundation collaborated with some parts of the project that the Municipality did not cover, a very necessary project and multi combined efforts for the well being of very low income children in Guatemala. During the inauguration, the School Alberto Mejia honored our founder with an award for his support for the education in Guatemala. All of this was possible thanks to your good hearts.
Same week we celebrated Children's Day in the new multi-use room for the more than 450 children for the schools Alberto Mejia and Manuel Marcos Martinez. We provided lunches, piñatas, clowns etc. They had a great time.
In November we were asked for help to fix a collapsing roof of the only free library in the little town of San Martin Jilotepeque, Chimaltenago Department in Guatemala, the Biblioteca Paco Piñas. They provide all services for free, they only have one paid staff and the rest are volunteers. The library has multiple uses for the children; reading room, help with homework, tutoring etc. the population in this town is 89% Mayan. Not only we helped with the new roof but also our founder René Corado donated a package of 10 of his books, the Spanish El Lustrador and the bilingual The Adventures of René Corado, The Shoeshine Boy. Now the library has a new roof and new books to replace some of the ones they lost with the water leaks, thank you very much for your kind donations.
A great thank you to all of you, the donors, from the Board of Directors of ELF -- René, Linnea, Don, Eddie, René Jr., and Dexter.– as well as our amazing volunteers in Guatemala and USA.
Thank you again for your support with our Guatemalan children. Education is the key to open the door of the dreams.
