Imagine you have lived without something as simple as clean water for most of your life. Now imagine that a deadly 7.8 earthquake ripped away what little you did have. This is the reality for Luis and Evalina. Today YOU can change one Ecuadorian family's future by helping to build a home. All Luis and Evalina have ever wanted is security - by simply having the opportunity to build a house, they are ensuring that their children will never have to suffer the hardships of instability that they did
On April 16 2016, a massive 7.8 earthquake devastated the northern coast of Ecuador. This shed light on the deplorable living situations of many people in the area. 7/10 people did not have access to basic services such as clean water & sewage systems. Exhausted from spending their lives in uncertainty, Luis and Evelina were among those affected. They have been living in a tent on the temporary relief camp Saman for over a year dreaming about reclaiming their lives with a home to call their own.
Building a house for Luis & Evelina means they will no longer be a statistic. They will have access to basic services such as clean water & sewage systems, but, more importantly, they will have the stability they have searched for their whole lives. Saman has shown Luis & Evelina what it means to be a part of a supportive community. For Luis & Evelina a new house is not simply a house; it represents a new future - for them, for their children, and for generations of their family to come.
By supporting Luis & Evelina, you are also helping many other families in the area that Proyecto Saman supports. You are helping a whole community find their way out of hardship into sustainable, long-term solutions providing them with an even better life than before the earthquake. With YOUR help, Hearts of Gold & Proyecto Saman are not only providing a house for a family, but rather building a community that promotes education, empowerment, opportunities for work and a prosperous future.
