New construction plans

The original construction plans included a simple 3 classroom design with students using latrines from the middle school. Although there are three grades (11, 12 and 13) in high school, there are many more subject areas that could be covered. It is desirable to have additional classrooms available to allow for coverage of those other subject areas. Two new construction plans were created to address the request for more classrooms and presented to the village association, Mami Siara Na (MSN). MSN chose a two story building design, which will be the first of its kind in Konkourona.
The new construction plans include:
- 3 classrooms and two offices on the first floor
- 3 classrooms, one office on the second floor
- Indoor toilets for students and teachers on the second floor
Construction must be completed before October 2028 for students who are currently enrolled in the Konkourona middle school to be able to enroll in the high school without interruption.

Fundraising continues
By Catherine Hoath | Co-founder, Secretary and Treasurer
Fundraising for the new high school in Konkourona is continuing as the community focuses on construction of a diagnostic laboratory. So far $100 out of a goal of $150,000 has been raised. Once construction of the diagnostic laboratory is complete in 2026, construction of the high school will be prioritized.
The infrastructure built in the past 7 years includes: elementary education classrooms, housing for teachers, a health center, a pharmacy, latrines, water towers, fountains, a library, a multi-purpose health center, a headquarters, a middle school, a warehouse for storing medical equipment, an incinerator for medical waste, and housing for healthcare workers. This infrastructure requires educated staff to run it. There are so few people with education beyond elementary school in Konkourona. Seeing so many new professionals provides students with many new career opportunities that they never new existed.

High performance at the middle school level has been sustained for 6 years now, since the beginning of the partnership between the Konkourona Alliance Foundation (KAFO), Inc. in the United States and the Mami Siara Na Association of Konkourona. Rates for passing the middle school entrance exam have soared from 4% in 2019 to over 80% today.
There is a growing need for community members with higher education to fill the many jobs that have been created since we started such as teachers, nurses, accountants, water managers, office managers, a library manager, a pharmacy manager, etc.
