Breaking Ground in 2014!

By Jamie Hauer | Asst. Director of Development

2,500 more kids like these will love the new Club!
2,500 more kids like these will love the new Club!

We hope you’ve been enjoying a fantastic year so far. The Boys & Girls Club is starting 2014 with some exciting news – we will break ground on the remaining phases of our project to build a new Boys & Girls Club at Golden West College this year! That means that the full Family Campus will be complete and ready to serve kids and parents in 2015.

Once complete, the new Boys & Girls Club will serve up to 2,500 youth per year. More than 70% will come from low-income families. At the new Club, kids will benefit from all the great programs and activities we offer at our other Club locations.

I’d like to let our kids tell you all about these programs in their own words. We recently asked our members what they love about the Boys & Girls Club, and here’s what they had to say:

  • “I can come and get my homework done.” –girl, age 10
  • “The staff take care of me and I have a lot of new friends.” –girl, age 10
  • “I get to make new friends and keep the friendship when I’m older.” –girl, age 11
  • “I love playing dodgeball and soccer!” –boy, age 7
  • “All the staff here make my life awesome.” –boy, age 8
  • “There are lots of clubs to join.” –boy, age 11
  • “I can be myself around people at the Club and I always have a smile on my face.” –girl, age 13
  • “I have fun every day.” –boy, age 5
  • “LEGOS!” –boy, age 5
  • “My staff mentor is the best because she understands me.” –girl, age 13

Your support to build a new Boys & Girls Club will make these great memories and experiences possible for even more kids in need. Thank you! With our construction timeline in place, support for this project is more important than ever before – we still have $5 million to raise to fully fund the construction of the gym and school age club. We thank you for helping us make it this far and hope you will consider sharing this important project with your friends. Please help thousands more kids like those you've heard from here by supporting the new Boys & Girls Club Family Campus – make a gift on GlobalGiving today!
