The objective of this project Build 2 Classrooms for 400 Children in Zimbabwe (#26946)is mainly to assist members of the Mangwe community to construct a secondary school that will benefit about 400 children from four remote villages. These children are forced to walk approximately 20km every day and are vulnerable to several risks. Construction of the school will not only help create a conducive learning environment but will also ensure that children are protected and face fewer challenges. However, the stagnant flow of funding continues to hold progress in the construction of the school.

The original project design envisioned a one year period for constructing one classroom block, two ablution blocks and two teacher houses so that children could be enrolled the following year. Evidently, even though communities have pooled together locally available materials, this is no longer plausible as the funds acquired are insufficient to commence construction.  Unfortunately, since our last report the project has not received any more funds hence the inability to procure building material. A total of US$2 572.00 was raised off 21 donors through the platform meaning therefore that there remains a deficit of $37 428.

The organization has been met with challenges in trying to raise funds for the construction of Mapukane Secondary School. Proposals were submitted to the Australian embassy in Zimbabwe and the German embassy in Zimbabwe but they could not fund it this time. The organization will therefore continue to seek other avenues through which funds can be raised.

Even though progress is at snail’s pace, communities remain motivated and are still positive that they will one day construct the school.  The community representatives still hold meetings were they discuss how they can raise funds. It is unfortunate that there is very little they can do on their own. The Foundation therefore appeals to the global community to continue supporting the people of Mangwe district in realizing their dream of building a secondary school. It is only through external support that this dream will become a reality.
