This project will build 2 pit latrines for Sakabusolo primary school in Kasanje village Wakiso district. Kasanje is one of the poverty stricken subcounties with poor hygiene and sanitation systems in schools and the community. This has led to high cases of diseases like Diarrhea and Bilhazia among schools as pupils use nearby bush; when it rains feces contaminate water sources used frequently by the community. This project will help improve hygiene, sanitation, low rates of diseases in schools
During our visits in the communities, it was observed that 7 Primary schools where pupils attain education don't have proper hygiene facilities in their schools. Those that have, have poor ventilation and inadequate sanitation facilities(one toilet without a clean water source) which increases the chances of the children and their teachers contracting airborne and water related diseases. This is due to extreme poverty and poor hygiene and sanitation practices. This project will benefit 300 pupils
The project will sensitize the pupils and the community about hygiene and sanitation and will also be a role model to other schools and community leaders in the area. It will put pressure on the government to build more latrines for schools and the communities in the area. The project will also lower the costs of medication and hospital bills as a result of air borne diseases.
This project will have a 5 year long term impact both to the schools and the community since it will be the role model for other schools and upcoming projects in Kasanje village.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
