Introducing Arepas de Chocolo Uno A

By Daniel Marulanda | Project Leader

Dear supporter,

Comuna 13 is not the same today. Formerly known as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Medellin, it now thrives in matter of innovation and entrepreneurial activities. The 10 families involved in this project are constantly working towards improving their lives through the businesses they founded. And this happens thanks to you and your involvement.

Knowing that there are people across the world who believe in your idea and potential is an unmeasurable feeling. These entrepreneurs are thankful every day for the new opportunities this project provides them. With long-term visions and thorough business plans, they become more and more success oriented.

Angela María and Bertulfo are two of them. The couple earns a living by making arepas de Chócolo, a traditional Colombian product they sell in their own small and comfy place to people in search for a quick breakfast or lunch snack.  They started the business to provide an income for their household, as they couldn’t engage in a workplace. Overcoming life challenges and reaching success in their business have been the main goals of the married couple.

The business has an adequate production capacity, they are marketing their product through direct sales at a fixed point and they also collaborate with a group of independent retailers who distribute the arepas throughout the city of Medellin.

Their medium-term purpose is to expand the business through acquiring modern equipment and to generate employment for qualified personnel. This way, they can fulfill their vision of contributing to the economic development of the community and reach as many locals as they can.

Your gift shows them it’s possible. It helps them see that they are not alone in this and determines them even more to never stop working for achieving their dreams. The project is ongoing and we invite you to make a gift at your choice, by selecting a donation option here.

‘Bringing hope to 10 families in Comuna 13’  is now part of the Together for Colombia campaign that we developed in order to raise awareness on the social and economic reality of this country and involve the international community in changing it to the better. Keep in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or read the stories on our blog.

Thank you for partnering with us to bring hope to this couple and the other families in the project. We greatly appreciate your continued support and the powerful impact it has on them and their community.

Kind regards,

Daniel Marulanda, Project Leader
