Genet Miriam School, recently renamed Genanaw Kerse Memorial School, serves 360 eager students in rural Ethiopia. But reduced public funding means most classrooms have no textbooks. Genanaw Kerse Memorial School (formerly Genet Miriam) serves 360 students in Gulo, Ethiopia-an isolated rural community where families live in deep poverty. Due to reduced national education funding, the school receives only one exemplar copy of each textbook per subject. With no budget for printing more, classrooms lack the basic materials needed to teach, and children are unable to study or learn effectively without books.
This project will fund the local printing of softcover textbooks for Grades 1-8, based on official curriculum materials. Textbooks will be printed at a 1:3 student-to-book ratio and delivered directly to Genanaw Kerse Memorial School. Teachers will receive planning guides to improve instruction. With books to share, students can finally follow lessons, participate fully, and begin to build strong academic foundations.
