Summary

WPTGF has been providing education to out-of-school children through its Non-Formal Education Centre located in Lalkurti, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Currently, 35 children from low-income families are enrolled in the centre. Most of these families live on about $1 per day and cannot afford their children's education. Since 2023, WPTGF has been committed to educating vulnerable children who otherwise would have no access to schooling. Over the past three years, the centre.

Challenge

Pakistan faces a severe education crisis, with about 26 million children aged 5-16 out of school. WPTGF is addressing this issue in Rawalpindi by reaching out to over 3,000 out-of-school children and listening to their problems. At its learning centre in Lalkurti, WPTGF provides free education to 35 children from ultra-poor families. Two teachers offer basic education and prepare these students to transition into mainstream schools and continue their formal education.

Solution

The solution to educate the Out-of-School Children (OOSC) is Non-Formal Education Centres (NFEC) because most of OOSC become overage and face difficulties in getting readmitted to formal schools in line with the formal school education policy. However, by studying in NFECs, they have attained a second chance to educate themselves by acquiring basic primary education and ultimately being enrolled in the mainstream schools to continue their education.

Long-Term Impact

This project will create lasting impact by increasing school enrollment, improving literacy, and reducing inequality. By targeting out-of-school children through inclusive, community-based approaches, it will empower marginalized groups-especially girls-breaking cycles of poverty and exclusion. Education boosts economic productivity, health outcomes, and social cohesion, enabling future generations to contribute meaningfully to society and fostering long-term national development.
