In Rincon del Mar, a remote and predominantly Afro-Colombian fishing village in one of Colombia's Caribbean coast, socioeconomic barriers prevent youth from continuing their education. TitaNext bridges that gap through a year-long program of guidance and support, followed by scholarships that finance and facilitate their access to higher education. So far, 31 students have completed the program, 24 have begun higher education, and all remain connected with their community.
Many young people in rural Colombia graduate from high school without the guidance, information, or resources needed to identify and pursue a viable path to higher education. Limited exposure to career options and the costs associated with studying away from home can turn educational aspirations into missed opportunities, limiting young people's ability to build the future they envision for themselves and their community.
TitaNext combines personalized guidance with financial support. During a year-long program, students explore their strengths, interests, and educational pathways while developing a plan for their future that is relevant to their own context. Scholarships then reduce the financial barriers that could prevent them from following that plan. TitaNext turns aspirations into opportunities while strengthening the social fabric of a community that has been structurally marginalized.
TitaNext creates a long-term cycle of opportunity. As young people access higher education, they gain knowledge, skills, and networks that can strengthen their families and community. By maintaining strong ties to Rincon del Mar, graduates become role models, future leaders, and potential contributors to local development. Over time, this can expand educational aspirations and strengthen the community's capacity to shape its own future.
