Bring Global Education To 100 In-Need Schools

by Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA)

US students, especially those in low-income communities, are underprepared compared to global peers in understanding and addressing global issues. We bridge this gap through visual storytelling and participatory media, providing creative educational approaches that foster global awareness and cultural understanding. This project provides educators in at-need schools with 80+ award-winning films and resources, equipping them to inspire the next generation of global citizens.

We live in an increasingly linguistically and culturally diverse society- in the U.S. alone, minority student enrollment in public schools rose to over 50 percent of the total student population in 2014. It's vital that students develop global competency: deeper understandings of the world's political, economic, and social issues; the ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds; and the skills to succeed in a global and interdependent society.

The first step to cultivating global competence in the classroom is exposing students to realities and perspectives different than their own. Documentary films challenge us to investigate the world beyond our immediate environment, empower us to explore how culture influences identities and development, and encourage both critical thinking and civic engagement. SIMA Classroom provides educators with 80+ short documentaries selected from over 140 countries by the annual SIMA Awards.

Long-Term Impact

Bringing real-life, compelling stories from around the world into classrooms provides students with the communication, social, and interpersonal skills to reach their potential and thrive in an ever-changing global competitive world. SIMA Classroom will be made available in 1,000 classrooms internationally, providing educators with invaluable tools that make global learning dynamic, inspiring and impactful.
