At SIMA Academy, we believe in the transformative power of documentaries to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of changemakers. Our award-winning short documentaries—globally sourced from the annual Social Impact Media Awards—bring media literacy, critical thinking, global citizenship, and cross-cultural understanding to learners worldwide through first-class, authentic storytelling.
Today, we proudly serve 146,930 learners across 106 countries.
Selected from the finalists and winners of the annual Social Impact Media Awards, SIMA Academy offers a continually updated streaming platform showcasing over 250 award-winning short documentaries and Virtual Reality films. Each title is paired with learning resources and participatory, skill-building lesson plans—providing educators, NGOs, and community leaders with the gold standard in social issue cinematic storytelling.
This year, we renewed our partnership with LEAP Africa, granting 4,642 women from 50 African countries access to SIMA Academy through their Leadership Accelerator Programme. Participants, representing sectors from agriculture and finance to STEM, education, and NGOs, are integrating storytelling as a catalyst for leadership, advocacy, and social change.
In collaboration with UNESCO-APCEIU, over 230 educators worldwide joined the fifth edition of The SDG Challenge: Advancing Media Information Literacy and Global Citizenship Education Through the Power of Film. Through the course, participants use film to extend learning beyond the classroom, inspiring students to become media-literate, globally minded citizens and active contributors to a more equitable and sustainable world.
Also in partnership with UNESCO-APCEIU, we curated a virtual cinema series, transforming film into a platform for global dialogue. Across three thematic events, educators, journalists, youth, and community members came together to watch award-winning documentaries and engage in thoughtful discussions with filmmakers and experts:
Through these virtual screenings, APCEIU fostered shared viewing experiences and deep dialogue around freedom of expression, children’s rights, and youth-led peacebuilding—encouraging empathy and inspiring concrete action.
Your support enables SIMA Academy to continue transforming witnesses into changemakers, ensuring that powerful stories reach the people who can carry them forward.
With warmth and gratitude,
The SIMA Academy Team
