3. Chunhui Care Home Program Story
Xiao Ke is a seven-year-old girl and suffers from Crouzon syndrome, sleep apnea, and an ovarian tumor.
Due to her medical conditions, she snores while sleeping at night. When she first arrived at Shanghai Chunhui Care Home, Chunhui Mama Hu kept a close eye on Xiao Ke's sleep at night. Whenever she noticed that Xiao Ke had stopped breathing, she would gently wake her up to keep her airway clear.
With Mama Hu's attentive care, Xiao Ke quickly formed a secure attachment with her. She would remind Mama Hu to watch out for slippery floors, voluntarily help with household chores, and express her needs in a gentle manner. These touched Mama Hu deeply.
Soon, Xiao Ke was taken to the hospital for a surgery to remove the ovarian tumor. She was very cooperative during the preoperative examinations. Before the surgery, she had to avoid food and water. Despite feeling very thirsty and hungry, Xiao Ke never fussed or cried. On the day of the surgery, Mama Hu accompanied Xiao Ke to the ward. Xiao Ke clutched Mama Hu's hand tightly. She didn't cry, but whispered, "Mama, please wait for me out here. " Seeing her maturity far beyond her years, Mama Hu's heart ached for her.
After the surgery, Xiao Ke needed to be transferred to the intensive care unit for observation, where Mama Hu could not stay by her side. From the nurses, Hu Mama learned that while in the ICU, Xiao Ke kept murmuring " Mama " and asking for seeing Mama Hu with a cry..
So, when Xiao Ke returned to the general ward, Mama Hu spent even more time each day talking and playing with her. Under Mama Hu's care, Xiao Ke was able to get out of bed and walk quickly. Every time when she walked, she would hold Mama Hu's hand tightly.
One night, Xiao Ke suddenly looked up at Mama Hu and whispered, "Mama, can you hold me in your arms? " Mama Hu bent down and lifted her up. Xiao Ke grinned from ear to ear, and her eyes sparkled with joy. In Mama Hu's company, Xiao Ke always smiled with happiness.
