A Safe Place to Learn and Grow

Warm greetings from Natsuko at Peace Winds Korea. I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of and interest in our project. Today, I would like to share an update on what has been happening at our child care center recently.

August brought continuous rain to Sitio Bakal. Some classes had to be conducted through learning materials at home, and flooding affected homes in the lower part of the community.

The child care center also serves as an evacuation shelter during floods. Four families, a total of 13 people, stayed at the center for several days until the water receded and they were able to return home. Afterward, the center was cleaned and prepared so the children could safely return to class.

Once classes resumed, we conducted the children’s first developmental assessments. Through activities such as drawing lines and identifying colors and shapes, we checked each child’s learning progress as well as their physical and communication skills.

The center is also adapting to the Philippine government’s new Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) curriculum for children aged three to four. Based on the assessments, we continue our daily lessons while paying attention to each child’s individual development.

At the end of August, the children and their families also prepared for the annual Language Month celebration. Despite the rainy weather, parents joined us in cleaning the surroundings of the center, cutting the overgrown grass, and preparing the space for the event.

On August 28, the children celebrated Language Month by singing songs, introducing themselves, and reciting short poems in Filipino. It was wonderful to see them confidently stand in front of everyone and express themselves.

Many parents also prepared handmade outfits or used clothes they already had at home for their children. After the performances, families shared a small meal together prepared by the parents.

Through these everyday activities, the children are gradually developing not only basic learning skills but also the confidence to communicate and express themselves.

Your support helps keep the child care center a place where children can learn and grow—and, when disasters occur, a safe place for families in the community.

Thank you for continuing to support the children of Sitio Bakal and helping create a safer and more encouraging environment for them.

With sincere gratitude,

Natsuko
