By Natsuko Fukuda | Project Coordinator
Warm greetings from Natsuko at Peace Winds Korea. I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of and interest in our project. Today, I would like to share an update on what has been happening at our child care center recently.
April marks the beginning of the summer season in the Philippines, and our daycare center has been busy preparing for the children’s summer camp.
To create a cleaner and more comfortable environment for the children, we cleaned and reorganized the classrooms, removed old paint and graffiti, and repainted the walls. The classrooms are now being decorated in white and green colors to create a brighter and more cheerful atmosphere for the children. The remaining work is scheduled to be completed in May.
On April 20, our summer camp program for elementary school children officially began. The main goals of the camp are to support children who will soon enter elementary school and to help those who are struggling with reading and writing skills.
This year, many children wanted to participate, so we divided the program into two classes with 10 children in each class.
At first, many children were unable to read, so we focused heavily on reading practice. The children are learning by writing words themselves, coming to the front one by one to read aloud, and gradually building both reading and writing skills together.
We also provide reading assignments for them to practice at home so that learning can continue outside the classroom.
Younger children below kindergarten age are also participating by learning simple letters and numbers. They practice by copying words written on the blackboard and reading them aloud after completing their work, allowing them to learn naturally through repetition and encouragement.
In addition to studying, the summer camp also provides plenty of time for play. For young children, play is an essential part of learning and development. The children are able to study and play freely at the same time, helping them stay engaged and happy throughout the program.
The active support and encouragement from parents have also become a great source of motivation for the children to continue learning consistently. Little by little, the children are developing balanced habits of “playing when it’s time to play and learning when it’s time to learn.”
We also inspected and repaired the daycare center’s solar power system, which had been broken for some time. There were problems with both the panels and batteries, but after replacing some parts and purchasing second-hand panels, the system is working again.
Thanks to this repair, we are now able to use electric fans, allowing the children to stay more comfortable during the hot weather.
However, the old blackboard currently has holes and needs to be replaced. Continued support is still needed to provide the children with a better learning environment.
Your support is helping improve not only the children’s education and growth, but also the environment where they learn and play every day.
Thank you for your continued kindness and support so that the children can continue learning, growing, and smiling in a safer and happier environment.
With sincere gratitude,
Natsuko, Peace Winds Korea
