Early Breast Cancer Detection For Salvadoran Women

Thanks to the funds collected through GlobalGiving, one hundred and five women living in vulnerable situations were examined through a breast ultrasonography after having received a short conference on the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

Some of the most notorious cases in the last months have been Norma, a fifty-seven year old single mother was one of our patients.  A concerned Norma came to our gynecological clinic afraid of having breast cancer as she had felt symptoms often related to breast cancer. Due to the vulnerable  economic situation Norma lives in, she had not been able to get medical assistance. Norma, the head of a family of twelve, the only family income available,  was very concerned about her health. Fortunately, all her exams were negative.  Norma is free of cancer.  Her mental health is now so much better by knowing she is a healthy woman.  

Veronica, a twenty year old lady who communicated with us through our social media.  Veronica was very stressed at the possibility of having breast cancer.  Her mother had died from breast cancer a couple of years ago and now, Veronica, had detected a brown liquid coming out of her nipples.  Fortunately, she was screened and the results were negative. Veronica and Norma are a couple of so many Salvadorian women who need to have access to gynecological health; unfortunately, their economical vulnerability does not allow them to.
