This project assists single mothers who are undergoing chemotherapy for Breast Cancer with financial help in order to keep themselves and their families on their feet while going through treatment. By providing financial assistance for services such as housing, utilities, co-pays, children's' school supplies, and more, we are literally keeping these families away from homelessness so that their mother can focus on healing.
The number one cause of bankruptcy in America is due to a health diagnosis. This is caused by the vicious cycle of the medical system: when they get the diagnosis, they often have to quit their jobs in order to focus on healing, but then cannot afford the mounting healthcare bills. Even with health insurance, Co-pays are often crippling while other medications are not covered by health insurance. This in turn causes poverty in a once-well off family.
Breast Cancer Angels' (BCA) vision is that no individual should have to choose between feeding their kids or buying their anti-nausea medication. Our mission is to take the steps necessary to make sure they don't have to by providing financial services such as housing, transportation, food, clothing, medical co-pays, and more. We quite literally help keep these families from homelessness during the worst time of their life so that they can concentrate on healing instead.
For many families, going bankrupt due to a medical diagnosis leads to what sociologists call a "poverty trap," which is when an individual falls so behind on their finances that it can take years or even generations to dig themselves out of it. By keeping families afloat during times of crisis, Breast Cancer Angels ensures that these families under their care do not fall into poverty while going through chemotherapy and can get back on their own two feet once in remission.
