Tangier Artist, Moha, Shares from his Heart...

By ATARMACHEN Mohamed Elamine (Moha) | Breaking Walls Artist/Leadership Apprentice

Hello, BW supporters and friends. Sometimes, even when you pour your heart into something, things don’t go as planned.

After a lot of thought, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the 2026 Breaking Walls Summit in Istanbul. While we were incredibly excited to come together this year, circumstances beyond our control mean that we’ll have to wait a little longer.

To everyone who supported this journey—our volunteers, partners, artists, facilitators, donors, and every member of the Breaking Walls family—thank you. Thank you for your time, your trust, your encouragement, and for believing in what we’re building together. None of it goes unnoticed.

This isn’t goodbye to the summit—it’s simply “see you next year.” Our community doesn’t only exist when we’re in the same place. It lives on through our conversations, our online gatherings, our creativity, and the friendships we’ve built across borders.

We’ll keep creating, learning, and building peace through the arts, and when we finally meet again, it will be worth the wait.

Thank you for standing with us. We can’t wait to see you next year.

Moha

Words from Executive Director & Founder Fran Tarr

Hello! It’s my hope, and that of your entire global family, that you’re enjoying a beautifully happy summer.

Thank you for taking the time to read Moha’s heartfelt update. We also deeply appreciate your ongoing belief in and support of our visionary programming.

I have few words to express how deeply I, along with the Breaking Walls Board of Directors, regret disappointing every young person like Moha, who dreamed, hoped, and prayed to join their creative peers for Istanbul 2026.

I take responsibility for failing to meet our financial goals. It’s increasingly difficult to raise funds in today’s environment. There are so many worthy causes and far too few available resources. Still, the Board and global family remain dedicated to building peace through art through our programming - especially the rescheduled Istanbul Summit for July 1 through 17, 2027.

To achieve this goal, we are taking several steps. We have assembled a strong Grant Writing team comprising Karen Keagle and Alejandro Bruna. We also have an equally capable Marketing Team made up of Breaking Walls leadership apprentices Imane and Dwayne, ambassador Claudia, and Artistic Mentor Alejandro.

Together, we are pursuing institutional grants, U.S. and international corporate sponsorships, and individual contributor campaigns to ensure we reach our $65,000.00 budget goal in support of a safe and successful 2027 Istanbul Summit.

Thanks to your support, we currently stand at 31% of that goal as of August  14.

We are pursuing a partnership with the Koc School and sponsorship from the Koc Foundation. This partnership/sponsorship could enable the Summit to use the school's dormitory, classroom, and theater spaces for our accommodations, daily workshops, and culminating performance, plus provide daily nutritious breakfasts and lunches. As you can imagine, this partnership/sponsorship will contribute an additional 30 to 35% to our total 2027 budget.

We have already applied for a Turkish Airlines Grant to cover all the international travel to Istanbul. Additionally, United Airlines has invited Breaking Walls 2027 Istanbul to use their Miles on a Mission platform to raise 250,000 air miles for flights to the Summit.

In September and December, we will participate in the Little X Little Matching and #GivingTuesday Campaigns on the GlobalGiving platform.

Then, ONWARD to 2027 fundraising efforts!

Please, follow our journey, and continue to JOIN OUR CAUSE!
