Warm greetings from No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project "Breaking the Chains of Commercial Sex in Ethiopia." This initiative is dedicated to supporting vulnerable women and girls affected by commercial sex work by providing rehabilitation, empowerment, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

During this reporting period, the project made significant progress in restoring dignity, improving livelihoods, and empowering beneficiaries to transition into safer and more stable lives.

Project Overview

The Breaking the Chains of Commercial Sex in Ethiopia project aims to address the root causes and consequences of commercial sex work among vulnerable women and girls.

The project focuses on:

  • Rehabilitation and reintegration of women engaged in commercial sex work
  • Economic empowerment through vocational training and income-generating activities
  • Psychosocial support and counseling services
  • Awareness creation on gender-based violence and exploitation

Key Challenges Addressed

  • Poverty and lack of economic opportunities
  • Gender-based violence and exploitation
  • Limited access to education and skills training
  • Social stigma and marginalization

Key Achievements (December 2025 – February 2026)

During this reporting period, the project achieved the following:

  • 120 women and girls enrolled in rehabilitation and empowerment programs
  • 85 beneficiaries completed vocational skills training (tailoring, hairdressing, small business skills)
  • 60 women started small income-generating activities
  • Provided psychosocial counseling services to 95 beneficiaries
  • Conducted community awareness sessions reaching over 1,200 people
  • Established 3 support groups for peer mentoring and emotional support

Early Impact & Beneficiary Stories

Restoring Hope and Dignity

Meseret, a young woman who participated in the program, shared:

"I felt trapped with no future before joining this program. Now I have skills, hope, and a new life ahead of me."

Observed Changes

  • Increased self-confidence among beneficiaries
  • Reduced dependency on commercial sex work
  • Improved income stability
  • Strengthened social reintegration

Community Participation

Community engagement has played a vital role in the success of the project:

This involvement promotes long-term sustainability and social acceptance.

Challenges Encountered

Despite progress, several challenges were observed:

  • Persistent social stigma toward beneficiaries
  • Limited funding to scale up support services
  • Economic instability affecting small business success
  • Psychological trauma requiring long-term support

Response Measures

NODRO has taken the following actions:

  • Strengthened counseling and psychosocial services
  • Increased community awareness to reduce stigma
  • Provided continuous mentorship for small businesses
  • Built partnerships with local stakeholders

Monitoring & Accountability

NODRO maintains strong monitoring systems to ensure impact and transparency:

Current Key Performance Indicators

What’s Next? (March – June 2026)

In the next phase, NODRO plans to:

  • Expand vocational training opportunities
  • Increase access to startup capital for beneficiaries
  • Strengthen psychosocial and mental health support
  • Scale awareness campaigns to more communities
  • Build stronger partnerships with government and NGOs
