Background: The rains in the state of Pernambuco that occurred in late May and early June left more than 125,000 people homeless and displaced, and caused 129 deaths. This was the second biggest tragedy in the state in number of deaths. Given the current national scenario, where situations of vulnerability in Brazil have worsened, the Brazilian Red Cross continues to work hard to support the preservation of life and restore the dignity of its beneficiaries. The present project determines a line of intervention to support the recovery of families in the affected neighborhoods in the city of Recife, in the segments of food security, a problem that was already severe during the pandemic, and economic recovery of the city. The criteria for assistance to families will be exclusively focused on people who lost their homes, or were directly affected by the heavy rains in the city of Recife, in addition to the number of families living in the same residence. All this data will be requested from public institutions that are managing the demand on the spot, through a letter to be sent by the Brazilian Red Cross. The intervention line aims to support families who are returning or have returned to their homes, as well as local economic recovery.
What was accomplished: Delivery of food cards to socially vulnerable families in the city of Recife, in the following neighborhoods: Praça do Cristo, Água Fria and Rosarinho. In all the aforementioned neighborhoods, the deliveries were made in person with employees of the Central Body and volunteers from other institutions, followed by guidance on the importance of the action (to give autonomy and restore dignity to families), on the use of the card and tips on healthy eating. All deliveries were made in person. In Praça do Cristo, we counted on the support of Acima - Ação Cívica and Banho Recife institutions for the indication of the beneficiaries, organization of the place where the deliveries would take place, as well as support in the organization of the deliveries
