The Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area in San Clemente, CA is dedicated to supporting our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though we had to close our doors on March 16 for the safety of all, that very same day we launched our Emergency Food program, delivering meals, food staples, and activities to families in need. To date, we have served over 5,000 meals. We are also providing virtual programming for our members and are prepared to open our summer camp as soon as it is safe.
Our Club had to close on March 16, along with our local school district, for the safety of our members, staff and volunteers. We recognized immediately that children rely on our Club and their schools for food, and that families would quickly face significant financial hardship related to COVID-19. These families were already food insecure and we knew we just had to help them through this unprecedented challenge.
The Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area is dedicated to continuing to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, in innovative ways. In our 50 years of serving the community, we have always taken pride in our responsiveness to the needs of those we serve. We always play a critical role in feeding many of our members, and immediately ensured that would not change. Better yet, with the help of our partners, we are feeding the entire family. To date we have served over 5,000 meals.
Our mission is to enable every young person, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. While we are serving this mission in a less traditional way, we know that every way we can help families get through this process will benefit each child. Once our Club reopens, we will play a pivotal role in helping our members get back on track academically and socially. We will also ensure parents can get back to work.
