Thanks to your great support we are able to grow and next months we are going to start new clubs in South Africa. Thanks to the funds raised during the New Year's Campaign we will be able to provide equipment to new girls' clubs in small towns around Western Cape, South Africa.
Boxgirls Kenya is one of successful Boxgirls clubs that works in schools in urban slums of Nairobi; in Kariobangi, Korogocho, Kibera, Mathare, Kayole, Huruma and the western part of Kenya. The schools are grouped in zones and each of them is carried by Boxgirls coach. The Boxgirls programme involves more than 600 girls and young women who meet weekly for boxing and self-defence training, self-confidence and self-esteem building and body fitness.
Currently Boxgirls Kenya works in 15 zones, schools and communities. 1017 girls and young women age 8-23 were enrolled in Boxgirls programme in 2014. Boxgirls reached girls and young women in the marginalized communities of Kenya, the urban slums and in the rural area of Ekambuli.
Last year Boxgirls managed to start 7 small scale businesses initiated by young mothers as a source of income. 10 girls have been coached to become Boxgirls coaches delivering life skills and boxing training to girls. Over 350 parents and community leader are involved in the programm. Boxgirls works with over 30 young community leaders engaged in the community development and Boxgirls programm.
Boxgirls is owned by the community. Girls, parents and community leaders and schools are all involved in supporting the girls one way or the other. Boxgirls believes that community ownership is the best way of maintaining community engagement in the organization.
Thank you for giving us the chance to reach even more girls with the program!
