Raincoats for children in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
The rain and thunderstorms in Thailand seem to travel from the northern down to the southern provinces, from the months of June through December. At the moment, the Capital city of Bangkok is experiencing the last batch of rains as the cold weather begins to set in in the Northern regions of the country. Meanwhile, the rains will start to be heavy in the Southern provinces of the country.
Nakhon Si Thammarat province is one such place, where, in the Choosin School where we have contacts with, they face yearly flooding, and in some years, classrooms and school equiptment were destroyed due to the flash floods that occur frequently there. As the school is a small private school, first established to help the needy families, their yearly predicament was largely missed by the local authorities as funding gets directed to other areas that were directly under the government's care.
Through our network of volunteers, the Foundation got to know of this school and the severe flooding there. Thus, we moved in rapidly to help them in their plight, by providing educational materials and other equipments to replace those that were destroyed by the flood... a total of 43 boxes were sent!
As a result, the Foundation has been keeping an eye on the happenings of the region there, and decided that funds would be raised for providing the children with raincoats to protect them from being sick as a result of being wet, when they have to travel to school during the monsoon season. Through the help of the Lions Club (Fort Canning) in Singapore, we have raised some funds towards this end.
At the moment, it seemed that the rainy season are about to reach their area, and our volunteers have been alerted, and will be purchasing the raincoats for the kids there and sending the items down south soon.
The Foundation thanks all who have been involved and following us in our work and for all donations that have come in to help the needy, and would appreciate any feedbacks that you may have to better our work.
With gratitude,
Vena
