Dear Friends and Supporters,
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. And what a year’s it’s been, with new challenges and crises popping up all over the world and in our homes.
It can be hard to find hope in the midst of all the struggle.
An American icon, Mr. Rogers, once said that when we look out and see a lot of scary things, we should look for the helpers. The helpers are always there.
That has been evident at The Emerge Project. After a long delay in programming due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent challenges, both local, global, and across our team, we are gearing up to get moving again! We have onboarded new board members and volunteers who bring great depth of experience and networks to our work. And we have finalized our theory of change after months working on it across continents and time zones. The helpers are always there.
We are aiming to begin creating new content this fall, and we can’t wait. There are so many stories of hope, resilience, breakthroughs and creative solutions in the Black community that need to be shared. In the meantime, we’re developing our digital and social media strategies, and working on rebuilding our website, so that we can hit the ground running. We still need helpers for these areas, so if any of you are interested in offering your services as a volunteer, please let us know!
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We would not have made it this far without you, our helpers.
In that spirit, we leave you with a video about Owen, who has played the role of Helper to high school students around Johannesburg, training them in entrepreneurship principles and mindset. Enjoy!
Until next time, with gratitude,
The Emerge Project team
