New Year, New Beginnings!

By Yuniya Khan | Project Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Happy New Year to you! We hope 2022 has gotten off to a good start for you.

2021 was challenging in so many different ways. But at The Emerge Project we made some good progress in our rebuilding process. We spent a good amount of time reworking our theory of change, and will soon have that finalized. We’re very excited about that!

Next, we’ll be moving on to completing the first iteration of our new website, with a couple of iterations added on throughout the year. In addition, our team is gearing up to get our social media going with new short and long-term strategies. For these two projects we’ll be engaging in a search for short-term volunteers to lend assistance. If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering, please reach out!

With those pieces in place, we aim to get started with new content production in April! It’s been a tough couple of years for the entire planet, and we want to highlight the ways in which Black South Africans have stepped up to support each other. We also want to use those stories to build local and global networks of support and collaboration that will allow Black changemakers to flourish.

We spent the last two years in lockdown mode. In 2022 we’ll be coming back to life!

In that spirit, we share with you the story of Midnight Train, the group of Black South Africans who responded to the devastating cyclone in Mozambique in 2019, and helped to bring some of those communities back to life.

Thank you for your support. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to connect.

Until next time, with gratitude,

The Emerge Project team
