Summary

Cyclone Biparjoy has left the already extremely vulnerable fishermen's families of Keti Bandar, Sindh, paralyzed and abandoned - like fish washed on land. They live without fulfillment of even their basic needs for food and shelter. NHSD is distributing food rations in the area. Please help in reconstruction of fishing huts and distribution of food rations. NHSD has previously worked in Tharparkar during last year's floods. We wish to carry it forward to these vulnerable populations.

Challenge

Cyclone Biparjoy had impacted the coastal region of Sindh, resulting in flooding and high water tides that spread right up to Tharparakar. The worst affected areas are coastal villages such as Keti Bundar. The villagers are left abandoned and paralyzed. Without the fish from the Indian Ocean, these villagers do not have any livelihood. They live in wooden huts that have been washed away, and they do not have any amenities or facilities. The villagers are extremely poor and have no protection.

Solution

NHSD will use its previous experience in Tharparkar from 2022 and 2023 for : 1) provision of food rations to ensure that the villagers of Keti Bandar have some food security. We will have 5 rounds 2) reconstruction of their huts using cement blocks which ensures 47 houses, 1 school, 1 dispensary, 1 Vocational Training Center. 3) installation of solar panels on the same huts which provide at least one fan and one light-bulb. NHSD will share the Need Based Assessment with everyone

Long-Term Impact

The NHSD NBA (Need Based Assessment) will help provide a pre and post analysis of the situation in Keti Bandar, SIndh The cement block construction and solar panel installation of 47 houses, 1 school, 1 dispensary, 1 Vocational Training Center guarantees that, with the climate change circumstances in Keti Bandar and coastal Sindh, the villages in coastal areas have electricity, and at least some permanent location which could be a collection point for the people. Livelihood becomes sustainable
