As a 2017 spring job of our Program , Biodiversity Restoration Along the Tsurumi River (#25860),
We have carried out restoration works 3times in April, twice in May, 3times in June mainly to remove an invading foreign
pollen allergy inflicting grass Lolium sp. from a riparian zone (about 2000) of the Tsurumi Riv. by Tsunashima
,Yokohama City . These works help citizens and children enjoy safely the fresh riverside green area in various ways
and also contribute to encourage the active regrowth or a native grass Miscanthus sacchariflorus (Amur silver grass) in
this area that was almost completely erradicated some about 10 years ago by invading foreign plants. We are going to
proceed to a summer works with the main target to remove another invading plant Sicyos angulatus;( Bur cucumber)
that is most viciously suppress the regrowth of the native grass Miscanthus sacchariflorus . Our current aim in these
years is to re-estabolish the whole scale community of Miscanthus sacchariflorus in this area as the basic condition
to restore full biodiversity including various specied of native plant and animals.
