New community within Assin Central District in the Central Region of Ghana received their first training within the four training modules of smallholder farmers capacity buildiing on biochar.
The beneficiaries were taken through various types of biomass available for making biochar, the dangers of open fire buring of their crop residues and other forms of biomass on climate change and the need for behavioural change through use of biochar kin to produce biochar by using the waste materils to improve their crop productivities.
Through interactive sections and questions and asnwers participants were led to identify the varuous types of crops they cultivate and the various climate change challenges they were faced with of which biochar systems technology would be addreesing by equiping them with skills to deplore biochar as solutions to such challenges.
The farmers were taken through the operation of the biochar kiln for making biochar from their waste corn cobs. By the end of the training section the farmers were able to produce their own first biochar with joy and full of hope in embracing the biochar technology for addressimg climate challenges facing their farming activities.
The biochar making equipment was handed over to the community leader for use by the community to make their own biochar in preparation for the second training module.
Representative from National Board for Small Scale Industries was present at the training workshop to ensure biochar technology adoption by the community is linked to theIir agroprosessing efforts thus market for their farm outputs. The kind of collaboration is to ensure farmers improve their livelihood for greater impact through their climate smart agriculture.
Our team together with the farmers are thankful to all our generous donors for making this biochar journey a success.
